Location
Where We Are
Njia Panda Tented Lodge is nestled in the fertile highlands of Karatu, Tanzania — at an elevation of approximately 2,000 metres, surrounded by indigenous forest, coffee farms, and the dramatic landscape of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We are located approximately 2.5 hours from Arusha and are easily accessible by road or light aircraft.

Location
The lodge sits on a private hectare of restored highland forest, set back from the main Karatu road on a quiet track lined with indigenous trees. The grounds feel far from the world — yet the Ngorongoro Crater rim is just one hour away, and the town of Karatu, with its busy local market and community life, is a ten-minute drive.
The elevation means Karatu enjoys a pleasantly cool climate year-round — rarely exceeding 27°C even at the height of dry season. Evenings are cool enough for a light layer and a fire.
Getting Here
The nearest international airport is Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), served by direct flights from Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and several European hubs. From JRO, Karatu is approximately 3 hours by road.
Arusha Airport (ARK) also serves daily domestic flights from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar — just 2.5 hours from the lodge.
The drive from Arusha to Karatu takes approximately 2.5 hours along the well-maintained A104 highway via Mto wa Mbu. The route passes Lake Manyara and climbs into the highlands through spectacular scenery.
We can arrange private road transfers from Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or any Northern Tanzania location. Contact us to book.
Charter flights are available from Arusha, Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, or the Serengeti airstrips to Karatu's Manyara Airstrip — just 45 minutes from the lodge by road. This is the most scenic and efficient option for multi-destination itineraries.
We work with several trusted charter operators and can assist with bookings and logistics.
